18 – I bought a Divine bar, is the third world saved yet?

The whole Fairtrade thing has been going on for a while now so I wasn’t as clueless about this one as some of the other challenges that I’ve done. I completed the part about buying Fairtrade things fairly easily. A cheeky Divine bar, some coffee and bananas were all on the menu through the week as well as the obvious choice – Ben and Jerry’s.

It was quite interesting to look into actually. It was hard to sift through all the resources on it as it was kind of a who’s shouting louder than who competition. Some people are really positive about it and think it’s doing a great job. Others talk about the fact that it’s still not actually fair etc etc. If someone can point me to the actual truth about it that would be grand. My thoughts are that I’m sure it’s not perfect, but surely something is better than nothing.

It’s actually not hard to choose the better products. Yeah they’re a little more expensive than their less fair counterparts, but I think it’s worth it to potentially make a difference to someone else. I know it’s not gonna change someone’s life completely but until I learn more, it’s better to do something than nothing.
